Responsibilities

Tasks

  • Develop and guide the behaviour of farm animals
  • Monitoring animal health
  • Organize tasks to accomplish the work
  • Perform livestock feeding
  • Feed and tend animals
  • Operate and maintain farm machinery and equipment
  • Ensure farm safety and bio-security procedures are followed
  • Maintain livestock performance records
  • Clean stables, barns, barnyards and pens
  • Detect disease and health problems in crops, livestock and poultry
  • Perform general farm duties
  • Set and monitor water lines, air flow and temperature in barns, pens and chicken coops

The Ranch Retreat Ltd. is a beautiful ranch located 30 minutes out of Kamloops, BC.  The ranch sits on 160 acres of land, and includes a day lodge, cabins, bunkhouse with a main house surrounded by a peaceful and serene atmosphere. The ranch handles different animals including livestock, poultry and horses.  With the combination of animal handling expertise and the equestrian center, the ranch offier other activities such as horseback riding, fishing and hiking.

The Ranch Retreat is seeking two full-time Ranch Workers to assist with the daily ranch activities.  Duties include but are not limited to; assisting other farm workers to help carry out feeding the animals, to assist with grooming, health, breeding and branding activities and may operate and help with the maintenance and repair of farm equipment, building and grounds.

Education: No degree, certificate or diploma required

Experience:  7 months to less than 1 year.  Experience is an asset. 

On the job training provided. Safety training and necessary protective equipment also provided if needed.

Terms of Employment:  Full Time/30-to 40 hours per week.  Mornings, Day, Evenings and Weekends as required.

Wages: $18.50 per hours.  Position includes incremental raises based on job performance. Over times hours may be required from time to time, which are paid on one and one-half regular wage rate as per provincial regulations.

Start Date: As soon as possible.

Work Setting: Rural Kamloops, BC – Ranch.    Affordable and suitable room and board.

Worksite Environment: Outdoors (weather), Noisy, Odours, Dusty, Livestock.

Work Condition and Physical Capabilities:  Repetitive tasks, can be at time physically demanding, attention to detail, combination of sitting, standing, walking, bending, crouching kneeling.

Personal Suitability:  Flexibility, organized, team player

Responsibilities:  Feed and tend to livestock, poultry and other animals, animal grooming, monitoring animal health, may assist with livestock branding, maintain or assist with the maintenance of the ranch infrastructure, clean stables, barns, barnyards and pens, Assist operate and maintain farm machinery and equipment, may assist with recognizing  and help  treat certain livestock health problems, perform general farm duties as required.
