Responsibilities
Calculate the cost of truck repairs and new parts if needed
Plan or adjust routes based on changing conditions, using computer equipment, global positioning systems (GPS) equipment, or other navigation devices, to minimize fuel consumption and carbon emissions
Drive as part of a two-person team or convoy
Load and unload goods
Obtain special permits and other documents required to transport cargo on international routes
Operate and drive straight or articulated trucks to transport goods and materials
Oversee condition of vehicle and inspect tires, lights, brakes, cold storage and other equipment
Perform brake adjustments
Perform emergency roadside repairs
Perform pre-trip, en route and post-trip inspection and oversee all aspects of vehicle
Perform preventive maintenance
Receive and relay information to central dispatch
Record cargo information, hours of service, distance travelled and fuel consumption
Tarping and ensuring safety and security of cargo

Certificates, licences, memberships, and courses
Class 1/1F/A Licence (semi trailer trucks)
Driver’s License (Class 1 or A)

Job Title: WELDER

Nature of Employment: Permanent Full-Time Position

Salary: $34.25 per hour for 37.5 hours/week. Overtime pay at 1.5 times the regular rate of pay after 44 hours. May be required to work some weekends

Job duties:

  • Interpret and work from blueprints, schematics, and welding specifications to execute projects accurately.
  • Utilize manual and semi-automatic welding tools to join and repair metal components using methods such as gas tungsten arc welding (GTAW), gas metal arc welding (GMAW), flux-cored arc welding (FCAW), etc.
  • Operate flame-cutting tools to shape and modify metal as required for repairs and fabrication.
  • Perform brazing and soldering tasks to assemble or repair truck components.
  • Operate brakes, shears, and other machines to straighten, bend, and shape metal parts.
  • Inspect worn or damaged metal parts and repair them by adding new layers of material through welding processes.
  • Maintain welding tools and equipment to ensure they remain in excellent working condition.

Language: English

Education: Secondary (High) School Graduation Certificate. College Education or apprenticeship training will be an asset.

Experience:  1 Year to less than 2 Years
