Responsibilities

Plan or adjust routes based on changing conditions, using computer equipment, global positioning systems (GPS) equipment, or other navigation devices, to minimize fuel consumption and carbon emissions

Load and unload goods

Operate and drive straight or articulated trucks to transport goods and materials

Perform preventive maintenance

Perform emergency roadside repairs

Record cargo information, hours of service, distance travelled and fuel consumption

Receive and relay information to central dispatch

Perform pre-trip, en route and post-trip inspection and oversee all aspects of vehicle

Oversee condition of vehicle and inspect tires, lights, brakes, cold storage and other equipment

Responsibilities

  • Supervise truck drivers and oversee day-to-day operations
  • Prepare production reports and other documentation
  • Recommend improvements to work methods and productivity
  • Resolve work-related issues and provide technical guidance
  • Train staff or arrange training programs
  • Dispatch drivers and monitor assigned routes
  • Monitor and operate signal and track switch control panels
  • Co-ordinate scheduling of activities, repairs, and rentals
  • Ensure compliance with all health and safety regulations
  • Recommend personnel actions
  • Requisition materials, equipment, and supplies

Requirements

Education:

  • Secondary school graduation certificate

Experience:

  • 1 to less than 2 years of experience in trucking or a related industry

Additional Requirements:

  • Criminal record check
  • Valid driver’s licence
  • Excellent oral communication
  • Strong organizational skills and flexibility
  • Ability to work as part of a team
