Baker

Task

 

  • Prepare dough for pies, bread, rolls, and sweet goods, batter for muffins, cookies and cakes and icing and frostings according to recipes or special customer orders,

  • Bake mixed doughs and batters

  • Frost and decorate cakes and other baked goods

  • Ensure quality of products meets established standards and customer satisfaction

  • Inspect kitchen and food service areas to ensure clean and safe

  • Operate machinery

  • Requisition or order materials, equipment and supplies

  • Train staff in preparation, cooking and handling of food,

  • Organize and maintain inventory

  • Oversee sales and merchandising of baked goods

  • Prepare dishes for customers with food allergies and intolerances

  • Draw up production schedule to determine type and quantity of goods to produce

  • Meet output requirements by being organized and having supplies ready for baking

  • Shall oversee sales and merchandising of baked goods

Work Conditions and Physical capabilities:

 

  • High volume Bakery having physical demand to meet output of product and customer needs.  Must be able to move quickly, stand for long periods of time, bend, crouch, kneel and continuously walk. Must be able to lift 20kg bags needed for mixing .  Position provides for sitting, standing and walking throughout the shift.

Education

 

  • Minimum of High School Education

Experience

 

  • Minimum of 3-5 years on the job training specializing in Breads, Pastries, Rolls, and Sweet Goods

Work Setting

 

  • High volume bakery/ fresh goods baked daily

  • Must be dependable meeting production targets

  • Ability to delegate ensure completion of duties by staff

  • Effective oral communication skills

  • Flexibility of availability

  • Must be able to work overnight/night shift with shift start times varying from 9pm up to 3am,shifts ending between 5am and 11am

  • 8-hour shift/ 5 days a week 

Wages/Salary 

 

  • 19.50 per hour/ full time

  • Minimum 40 hours per week with overtime available if required
