Kitchen Helper (NOC 65201)

BBQ King is the place for Chinese food lovers who are looking for the most authentic Chinese dishes, dim sum, BBQ duck, and pork. We have a great selection of Chinese and Western dishes, pastries, fresh veggies, desserts, and beverages. As the business is getting busy, we are now looking for 1 kitchen helper.

Minimum Requirements

  • Will train. Kitchen helper experience in a Chinese restaurant is an asset.
  • Completion of high school
  • Able to speak and understand English
  • Hardworking and honest
  • Able to work in a fast-paced environment

Job Duties & Responsibilities

  • Washing and cutting ingredients such as vegetables and meat.
  • Assisting in preparing basic cooking materials and seasonings.
  • Checking the freshness of ingredients and monitoring storage conditions.
  • Cleaning kitchen utensils, dishes, pots, pans, and knives.
  • Keeping workstations and kitchen floors clean and organized.
  • Managing waste disposal and ensuring timely trash removal.
  • Assisting chefs with simple cooking tasks, such as plating and garnishing.
  • Providing necessary tools and ingredients to chefs during food preparation.
  • Preparing simple dishes like dim sum, soups, or appetizers.
  • Receiving, organizing, and storing food supplies and other materials.
  • Keeping refrigerators and storage areas tidy and labeled.
  • Adhering to food hygiene and safety regulations.
  • Maintaining cleanliness in all work areas to prevent cross-contamination.
  • Supporting the kitchen team during busy periods.
  • Communicating with chefs and waitstaff to ensure smooth service.

Work Hours

40 hours per week by shifts

Monthly Compensation

$20 per hour with 2 weeks annual vacation

Tasks

  • Analyze budget to boost and maintain the restaurant’s profits
  • Evaluate daily operations
  • Modify food preparation methods and menu prices according to the restaurant budget
  • Monitor revenues to determine labour cost
  • Monitor staff performance
  • Plan and organize daily operations
  • Recruit staff
  • Set staff work schedules
  • Supervise staff
  • Train staff
  • Balance cash and complete balance sheets, cash reports and related forms
  • Cost products and services
  • Enforce provincial/territorial liquor legislation and regulations
  • Ensure health and safety regulations are followed
  • Participate in marketing plans and implementation
  • Address customers’ complaints or concerns
  • Provide customer service
  • Manage events
