Responsibilities

Tasks

  • Calculate and prepare cheques for payroll
  • Keep financial records and establish, maintain and balance various accounts using manual and computerized bookkeeping systems
  • Maintain general ledgers and financial statements
  • Post journal entries
  • Prepare other statistical, financial and accounting reports
  • Prepare trial balance of books
  • Reconcile accounts

Position: Accounting Technician (NOC 12200)

Terms of Employment: Permanent, full time

Wage: $64,000 CAD per year

Job Requirements:

1) Min. one year of accounting experience;

2) Must have completed a college program in accounting, bookkeeping, or a related field, or finished two years of a recognized professional accounting program;

3) Strong MS Office (Excel) skills;

4) High proficiency in Proclaim Accounts;

5) Familiarity with Amicus and Primafact;‎

6) Online banking – domestic and international wires;

7) Basic understanding of Law Society BC Trust Accounting Rules and Regulations;

8) Basic understanding of Sales Taxes: GST, BC-PST, QST

9) Detail oriented, methodical, well organized, with quick and efficient data entry skills;

10) Fluency in English, both spoken and written, is essential for effective communication in this role.

 

 

 

Job Duties:

• Prepare contingency accounts;

• Prepare time based accounts;

• Process, post, and finalize client accounts; 

• Review lawyer’s undertakings;

• Process pooled trust account deposits;

• Arrange payments made from trust accounts;

• Review and prepare electronic transfers made from trust accounts;

• Coordinate with firm partners to collect signatures for cheques/electronic transfer forms; 

• Maintain physical and electronic records;

• Respond to questions that arise from billings;

• Observe Law Society rules for funds held in trust; 

• Collect and remit trust administration fees;

• Close files;

• Process and monitor accounts receivables; and

• Assist the team with various special projects.
