Physical Therapy Assistant

General Accountabilities

  • Assist physical therapists in providing physical therapy treatments and procedures.
  • Administer electrical modalities to relieve pain
  • Instruct, motivate, and assist patients to learn and improve functional activities.
  • Observe patients during treatments and comply and evaluate data on patient responses to treatments and progress and report findings to physical therapist.
  • Fit patients for, adjust, and train patients in use and care of orthopedic braces, prostheses, and supportive devices such as crutches, canes, walkers, and wheelchairs.
  • Confer with members of physical therapy staff and other health team members, individually and in conference, to exchange, discuss, and evaluate patient information for planning, modifying, and coordinating treatment programs.
  • Give orientation to new physical therapist assistants and direct and give instructions to physical therapy aides.
  • Perform clerical duties such as taking inventory, ordering supplies, answering telephone, taking messages, and filling out forms.
  • Measure patient's range-of-joint motion, length and girth of body parts, and vital signs to determine effects of specific treatments or to assist Physical Therapist to compile data for patient evaluations.
  • Monitor treatments administered by physical therapy aides.

Job Qualifications

  • Education: College Diploma or Certificate in a related field
  • Experience: 1-2 years of related experience
  • Able to work independently with minimal supervision

Family Doctor

Working in a private clinical practice setting, located in a rural area, you will :

  • Consult with other medical practitioners to evaluate patients' physical and mental health
  • Prescribe and administer medications and treatments
  • Inoculate and vaccinate patients to prevent and treat diseases
  • Advise patients on health care
  • Co-ordinate or manage primary patient care
  • Provide acute care management
  • Provide counselling and support to patients and their families on a wide range of health and lifestyle issues
  • Supervise home care services

You will have a clear client focus, while being accurate, dependable, flexible, reliable and a team player. You also mush have good interpersonal skills and excel in oral and written communication. Moreover, you will show that you are organized and exercise good judgment when dealing with clinic clients. This is a full-time, permanent position working 40-48 hours per week.

You must be fluent in English, have a Degree in Medicine, College of Family Physicians Certification (CCFP) and have been granted authorization to practice by the Alberta College of Physicians and Surgeons (CPSA). You also will have a minimum of two years of full time experience in a similar positiont

Salary: $232,000 to $350,000 annually (to be negotiated)
