We are seeking a talented person to be part of our team. We have a multi-faceted business, so we need a person with many skills to perform roles as kennel attendant, dog trainer and dog breeder. The successful candidate will have
- solid skills and experience working with dogs of all breeds, sizes and temperaments and the ability to handle them safely
- the ability to read a dog’s body language to create co-operative play groups
- be able to recognize and de-escalate situations before they erupt
- be able to break up altercations between dogs
- experience and ability to perform basic training for dogs and assist with training
- experience to effectively participate in our dog breeding and training program
- observational skills
- high ethics and standards for the care, well-being and maintenance of the dogs
- canine medical and dental skills is definitely an asset
- good communication skills
- good English language skills
- the ability to work with a team, be able to take direction and also be able to work independently (aka self-starter) without direct supervision
- for foreign applications, must be able to pass our Canadian government’s requirements under the NOC codes 65220 or 80020.
We are a boarding kennel on 10 acres where we provide a dog daycare, overnight boarding facility, indoor dog training facility, agility fields, and parks for the dogs to run and play. You must be physically fit, be able to work outdoors in all seasons and weather, have good common sense and good reactions.
You will be involved with our customers and must be able to communicate with them and have good interpersonal skills. Communication is important between staff members in order to keep the animals safe and the facility running in a well-organized manner. Basic computer skills are required.
The job duties include, but are not limited to, keeping the dogs in a safe and clean environment, feeding, giving medication, bathing, grooming, nail trimming, teeth cleaning, weigh-ins, monitor and record health details, exercising dogs, monitoring and documenting animal behaviour, cleaning inside and outside, checking inventory and supplies, checking the grounds and fence lines, reporting any issues.
We are just outside of the City (about 5 km from city centre) and not on a bus route. You will need your own reliable transportation to get to and from work. Our shifts are generally 8 hours a day but flexibility is necessary. Our day starts at 7:00 am and ends at 8:00 pm 7 days a week. The average week is 40 hours, based on 8 hours a day, 5 days a week. You must be available for all shifts, including evenings, weekends and statutory holidays.
