Jamaica House Jerk, a speciality restaurant providing home-style Jamaican cuisine to dine-in and take away clients, requires a Kitchen Helper for its location in Brampton. Specializing in jerk chicken, jerk pork and curried goat, this restaurant boasts an ever-growing menu of island favourites providing plenty of variety for everyone for breakfast, lunch and dinner.
The successful applicant will have some secondary school education and must be interested in learning to handle various tasks independently while following directives in a fast-paced kitchen. This is an entry-level job that will provide on-the -job training. A strong work ethic, a positive attitude and some experience in the food-services industry will be considered assets.

Responsibilities
The kitchen Helper will provide food preparation support services to kitchen staff such as chefs and cooks, as well as those employees directly serving customers. This position entails clearing tables, cleaning kitchen areas, washing dishes, and performing various other activities to support other employees who prepare and serve food and beverages.

Job Duties
o Wash and peel vegetables and fruit;
o Cut and wash meat and fish according to chef’s directions;
o Wash worktables, cupboards and appliances as needed;
o Remove trash and clean kitchen garbage containers;
o Unpack and store supplies in freezers, refrigerators, cupboards and shelves;
o Sweep and mop floors, and perform other duties to assist cook and kitchen staff;
o Clear and clean dining tables and food trays;
o Assist in laying out plates, cups, saucers, flatware and other items to serving areas and dining tables;
o Replenish condiments and other supplies at tables and in serving areas;
o Assist in packaging take-out orders;
o Wash dishes, glassware, flatware, pots and pans using dishwasher and by hand;
o Place clean dishes in designated storage area;
o Perform any other duties that may be assigned by your supervisor;

Qualifications
o Experience in food preparation in a commercial setting;
o Must have good interpersonal and multi-tasking skills;
o Be able to speak, read, write and understand English;
o Be able to work in a fast-paced environment.

This is a permanent full-time position located at 145 Clarence Street, Brampton.

Hourly wage is $16.60.

Full time: 35-40 hours per week

Schedule: Monday to Saturday Time: 9:00 am to 4:00 pm

Guest Service Agents

Who We Are- Keltic Lodge at the Highlands is a historic Cape Breton Resort and is located in the heart of Cape Breton Highlands National Park overlooking the Atlantic Ocean. Just 2 hours from Sydney, NS and a 5 hour drive from Halifax, the resort has been welcoming guests to Cape Breton, Nova Scotia since July 1940.

 

Title of Position – Guest Service Agents

 

Number of Vacancies – 3

 

Job Type- This is a permanent, full-time position, starting Fall/Winter 2023. 

 

Hours of work- 30 to 40 hours per week. Shifts include: weekends, holidays, morning, afternoon and evenings. Overtime may be required. 

 

Essential Functions-

  • Consistently offer professional, friendly and engaging service

  • Greet, check in and settle guest accounts while ensuring all service standards are followed

  • Document all guest requests, complaints or issues immediately and notify designated department/personnel for resolving the situation. Follow up to ensure completion and guest satisfaction

  • Conduct Night Audit Procedures as assigned

  • Assist in monitoring the switchboard phone line and answering calls/responding via other communication platforms

  • Responsible for maintaining personal cash float used to assist guest with transactions and currency exchange

  • Assist guests regarding resort facilities in an informative and helpful way

  • Respond to each Guest who approaches the Reception Desk

  • Drive rate through up-selling room brands

  • Communicate effectively with coworkers and customers in an English work environment

  • Other duties as assigned

 

Wage- $16 per hour

 

Bonus – An additional peak season bonus of $2 per hour for each hour worked will be provided to all employees after October 31st 2024 who a) work a minimum of 500 hours between May and October 2024 and b) are still an employee of Keltic as of October 31st 2024. Other eligibility criteria are defined in the internal bonus policy. Bonus structure for future seasons is to be reviewed annually and not guaranteed.

Required Qualifications-

  • Completion of apprenticeship program, or a college program in front desk operations or hotel management or past experience in customer service

  • Professional English proficiency to communication in English work environment 

  • Accuracy and speed in executing assigned tasks
