Responsibilities/Duties:

 

Read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and specifications to determine layout and materials required.

 

Measure, cut, shape, assemble and join materials made of wood, wood substitutes, lightweight steel and other materials.

 

Prepare layouts in conformance to building codes, using measuring tools

 

Construct, install, and repair decks, railings, stairs, doors, windows, and other wooden frameworks.

 

Build foundations, install floor beams, lay subflooring and erect walls and roof systems

 

Prepare estimates of labour and/or material costs

 

Operate power tools, saws, drills, and other hand tools safely and efficiently.

 

Inspect and maintain carpentry tools and equipment.

 

Ensure that all work meets quality standards and complies with building codes and safety regulations.

Tasks

  • Prepare estimates of labour and/or material costs
  • Prepare layouts in conformance to building codes, using measuring tools
  • Measure, cut, shape, assemble and join materials made of wood, wood substitutes, lightweight steel and other materials
  • Prepare tenders and quotations
  • Fit and install windows, doors, stairs, mouldings and hardware
  • Schedule and co-ordinate work on sites
  • Survey building locations and levels
  • Estimate costs and materials
